Creativity in the digital world

Learning objectives

In this course, you will learn:

Identify and use basic digital creativity tools;
  Design simple content such as cards, presentations, or collages;

Edit images and digital documents easily;
  Express ideas and emotions through digital media.
What is digital creativity?

Digital creativity refers to the use of technological tools to create, edit, or share visual, audio, or textual content. This form of expression allows ideas to be transformed into accessible and engaging digital formats, such as presentations, drawings, photo albums, videos, or personal blogs. No prior experience is required to get started: the most important thing is curiosity and a desire to learn.

Examples of digital creativity:

  • Create a birthday card with your computer.
  • Design a family photo collage.
  • Write and publish your own recipe on a blog.
  • Edit a video with memories from a trip.

Unlike paper, digital formats allow you to easily edit content, correct errors, duplicate creations, and share them instantly. They also offer access to thousands of resources such as royalty-free templates, images, and sounds. Digital creativity is economical, environmentally friendly, and versatile.

Basic tools to get started

There are many platforms accessible from phones, tablets, or computers. Canva, for example, makes it easy to create visual designs, while Google Slides is great for presentations. These tools feature simple menus and predefined templates that make designing easy, even for beginners. There are many accessible, free digital tools that allow you to develop your creativity step by step:

  • Canva: to make graphic designs such as posters, cards or invitations.
  • Paint or Paint 3D (Windows): to draw and colour with the mouse.
  • Google Docs: to write texts with the ability to add images and share them easily.
  • PowerPoint: to create presentations with photos, text, music and effects.
  • Snapseed / Photo Editor: mobile app to edit photos.

These tools are designed to be intuitive, and many offer pre-designed templates to help you get started with confidence.

Browse and save your creations

When working digitally, it is important to properly organize and store files:

  • Clear names: Name the files according to their content (e.g. "Collage grandchildren 2025").
  • Folders: Create thematic folders on your computer or mobile (e.g. "Family Photos", "Digital Recipes").
  • Cloud: Save backups to services like Google Drive or Dropbox to avoid losing your work.
  • USB devices or pendrives: Useful for saving copies and carrying content to other devices.

Tip: Keeping a copy of important work prevents accidental loss due to system failures.

Creative projects with photos and text

Channels and formats: text, image and video

Digital content can be classified according to its format:

  • Text: used to write messages, phrases, titles or poems.

Using all of these formats allows for richer and more personalized communication.
